Water Play - Boat Races

What a lovely sunny weekend, it feels like Summer has finally arrived! The children asked for the tuff trays setting up for them for after school on Friday but as I was in Phoebe's class doing an interactive story session for most of the day, I didn't have the time or energy to think up much so I just put some homemade play dough in one and water in the other.

Sometimes the simplest set-ups are the best - they have had so much fun playing with both trays all weekend! They made a cookie shop in the play dough tray and named it 'Cuky'!

On Friday they wanted to make boats with their friends so I gave them some corks and elastic to tie them together and they were delighted to see that they floated. On Saturday we took it a step further and I showed them how to add a mast to their boats with a square of paper & a cocktail stick.

I then remembered a lovely soothing book we used to read a lot at bedtime that has the instructions to make an origami boat in the back. Once they had a cork and origami boat each they decorated them so they knew which was theirs and Phoebe gave her cork boat a little Lego sailor!

I gave them a paper straw each and they had so much fun blowing on their boats to make them move - even more so when we added an obstacle course with toy traffic cones and they started racing each other!
