Home-made Play Dough

I've made play dough from a few recipes and the one that I used for our The Tiger Who Came to Tea activities yesterday makes the softest dough I have come across. It was left out overnight and it was still just as soft this morning.

Here's the recipe:-
2 cups plain flour
1/2 cup salt
4 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 tablespoons oil
2 cups boiling water
Put it all in a bowl together with any colouring or essence you want (food colouring or child-safe paint both colour dough well), stir it with a spoon until it's cool enough to touch (it will only take a couple of minutes) and then knead it well for a few minutes.
Job done!

The children really enjoyed making play dough cakes yesterday so to extend their play I put a cardboard cake stand in the tuff tray that I had left from our party for last year's Royal Wedding - no instructions, no pointing it out. Ollie & Phoebe soon noticed it and when I came back into the room shortly afterwards they had filled the cake stand with 'springtime cakes' using the play dough and some sparkly eggs left from Easter 😊
