Royal Wedding Party - Ideas for Royal/Prince & Princess parties

Still no sign of Baby Sussex arriving but it can't be long now! We had a wonderful day watching Harry & Meghan's wedding last May. We invited some friends with children over for a royal party and made a day of it - the activities I organised could be used for other party themes such as a prince/princess party, a royal/Great British gathering or just activities at home to celebrate the new royal baby!

The pound shops were full of royal goodies last Spring. I picked up some royal bunting, red white & blue balloons, a Union Jack cardboard cake stand which can be used again and some British themed cake cases & toppers.

Decorate A Crown

I cut out a simple zig-zag crown shape from an A3 sheet of paper for each child and stuck a strip of paper on one end which we could then sellotape to the right size for the child once they'd decorated their crown, using sequins & glue sticks, pens & crayons, stickers and stamps.

Flag Making

Once they were all donning a crown, they coloured in their own flag to wave. I found a free printable flag online and sellotaped it to a flagpole which was a rolled-up sheet of paper. The other side of the flag was blank so they could create their own flag design too if they wished. You could modify this idea to suit your party/activity theme - different countries' flags for an Olympics/countries theme, a skull & crossbones flag for a pirate party or create your own designs!

It was now time to watch the ceremony!

Afternoon Tea

After the mums had finished gushing at Meghan's dress and searching the guests for Harvey Specter from Suits, we laid out a very British afternoon tea - little sandwiches, strawberry tarts, cup cakes - and the obligatory crisps and salad sticks that every child's party needs of course, but in Union Jack bowls at least!

Treasure Hunt

The kids then ran off some steam doing a treasure hunt. I printed and cut up lots of Union Jacks and hid them around the house and garden for the kids to find. I re-used these at a later date making a name recognition game for my daughter.

Make Your Own Royal Character

The last activity was to make your own royal character. I had some cardboard figures, googly eyes, sequins & paper capes left over from my son's Magic themed party and I added to these some foam crown shapes from the pound shop (although you could of course cut these out of card), glue sticks and some pens & crayons.

No party bags for this one but they were all pleased to have their regal creations to take home with them!
