Springtime Egg Hunt Tray Part 2 - for Older Children!
Straight to bed when we got home late last night, after an after-school 3.5 hour round trip to watch their cousin in an ice skating show (they got to skate themselves for the first time after the show and absolutely loved it, much excitement about a rink opening near us later this year now!). So they were very intrigued this morning to see the egg hunt tray that I had set up for my friend's toddler the day before and wanted to do a hunt themselves. So I made it a bit more of a challenge for them by saying they were not allowed to touch the eggs with their hands.
They each had a little tub, a couple of spoons and a pair of chopsticks to pick up the eggs with and gave all the methods a try - I was surprised to see how well they could use the chopsticks, good fine motor skills at work!
My Potterhead son then of course turned it into a 'Care of Magical Creatures' lesson and we had to make a nest with the shredded paper for the eggs, divide up the eggs into pots (yellow is basilisk egg, pink is phoenix egg etc) and then had fun rolling them back down into the nest with a piece of folded cardboard. I love seeing where they take an activity with their own imaginations! Now to tidy up the shredded paper covering my dining room floor....
