Practicing Left & Right - Driving School
Phoebe has been showing an interest in learning her left from her right so I thought up a little game to help.
She gets really excited whenever she sees driving school cars, and even more so when she sees a car with a green 'P' plate ("They've passed Mummy, hooray!") so whilst she was at a friend's birthday party this morning with Edd I set up a driving school for her, tying a triangle sign to the roof of her Little Tikes Cozy Coupe car with string & attaching a cardboard 'L' plate to the back of the car with sellotape. I also put a 'Left' & 'Right' card inside the car to help her.
Ollie revelled in helping me set this up, colouring in the 'L' & 'P' plates for me and then using chalk to draw road markings up the yard & around the trampoline 'roundabout' - he even marked out some parking spaces. He then disappeared into the house and came back with a gear stick he'd made of his own accord! 😍
Phoebe was delighted when she came home to find her very own driving school. Edd took his role as driving examiner very seriously and appeared with a clipboard & pen! She listened carefully to the instructions & used her prompt cards when he told her to go left or right.
She clearly didn't want the game to end as she insisted on a 'gear stick test' & calling into the garage to fill up with petrol!
Once she'd finished, Edd informed her she'd passed and she replaced her 'L' plate with a 'P' plate!
This didn't take long at all to set up & was a fun activity - it was a good way to reinforce left & right and also added a different dimension to the toy car... a nice memory of it as I think Phoebe will be too big for it too the next time she has a growth spurt!
