Bath time Play Dough Soap
I've had a lot of interest in how to make this bath time play dough soap that we made in The Bedtime Garden so I thought I'd give it it's own post to make it easier to find! This is simple enough to make even with toddlers so children can get two play sessions out of it - making it and then using it in the bath! The recipe is so easy & perfect for those who like messy or sensory play. It is also the perfect incentive to get them into the bath - they can play with it and then wash themselves with it. It really does work as a soap!
There are only three ingredients -
1 cup corn flour1/2 cup body wash
1 tablespoon coconut oil (I researched this and coconut is a fruit rather than a tree nut so doesn't pose the allergy risks that nuts do)
Essentially all you need to do is mix the ingredients together for a few minutes and it will turn into a lump of play dough soap.
However I would add these personal tips to the recipe -
- When I bought the coconut oil it came as a solid which I thought I could just rub into the mixture but it was too gloop-like doing this & went runny when you stopped rolling it. You need to melt the coconut oil first if it's solid (a few seconds in the microwave will do it).
- Don't add all the body wash in one go - it goes really runny & sticks to your fingers and you lose half your dough! Add it about a third at a time.
- I used the Imperial Leather range of body washes that smell of marshmallows, love hearts etc. The children loved picking whether to have mermaid/unicorn/refreshers play dough and it coloured & scented the play dough beautifully, the Summer fair stall smelt like a Lush shop!
