Fine Motor Skills - Tweezer Potions
Feeling inspired, I set up a potions themed activity for them to discover in the morning (they're usually up first on a Saturday!) using a mini inflatable tray which I bought from Amazon for £2 - it's a great way to contain mess or an activity without needing a big space for a proper tuff tray.
I put different sized items, all of the same four colours, mixed up - corn starch wotsits, fake petals, Hama beads & various sized pom poms. They had to use the tweezers to separate them into the four colours to "create the potions". I knew this would appeal, especially the idea of the items being "dangerous to touch", plus using the tweezers is a great way to practice those fine motor skills. I got a pack of 5 plastic tweezers, again from Amazon for £2 - they are a bit too pointy for toddlers so I'd recommend a chunkier version for them but they're great for preschoolers upwards.
They had already completed the task by the time I came down this morning and took great delight in telling me all about it.
Ollie's friend is here for a sleepover this evening so Ollie then added her name to the instructions and set it all up again for the three of them to do together so I'm guessing they enjoyed it!
