Easy Father's Day Ideas

We always make homemade Father's Day cards & gifts as well as buying a little present too. Since they've been able to talk Ollie & Phoebe have chosen their own presents which has led to some interesting choices, one of my personal favourites being a wind-up mouse which was actually a cat toy.

When the children were smaller, the home-made element tended to involve a lot of painted handprints as they make a nice keepsake. I didn't realise my husband was so sentimental until I asked him today whether he had any Father's Day gifts on his desk at work and he sent me a photo of these - note the calendar is for 2013! Well, either sentimental or he just hasn't cleared out his desk for a reeeeally long time 😏
(In the interests of honesty - Phoebe's handprint poem was made with her nursery not with me, but I'm sharing it in case anyone would like to use the wording as I think it's lovely😍)

Three years ago Ollie wanted to get Daddy some superhero pyjamas. I could only find Marvel lounge pants so we combined the homemade and purchased present that year! I bought a plain white t-shirt and some fabric pens and Ollie drew a 'Super Dad' t-shirt to go with the bottoms, complete with cape on the back, Daddy's own logo on the front and lightning bolts on the sleeves.

Two years ago it was all about the Hama beads, so coasters a-plenty made for Daddy and Grandad! Fantastic fine motor skills practice and it means my poor neglected iron gets the odd trip out of the cupboard.

Last year they both wanted to give Daddy a framed photo for his desk at work. They made a 'We love Daddy' poster to be photographed with, which we then put up on Father's Day, and decorated a plain wooden photo frame with paint, glue, sequins and foam shapes.

Both kids really enjoy decorating stones at the moment so we decided to do paperweights for Daddy and Grandad this year. They chose their stones on a walk, drew on them with permanent markers, wrote a little message on the underside and sealed them with a varnish of pva glue mixed with a tiny bit of water.

Daddy loves pizza and as we are oven-less until we get our new kitchen installed we are taking him to his favourite pizza restaurant on Father's Day, so the children drew pizzas on his card - Ollie's card reads "I love you with every pizza my heart!"

Acrostics are a fun idea for cards too - Ollie always does one with the recipient's name inside their card ever since my sister taught him how to do them. It's always interesting to see what adjectives he'll come up with - apparently we know a lot of people who are 'downright jolly', so lucky us! 😉
