Unicorn Masquerade Ball
My friend moved house the week of her daughter's 5th birthday so I offered to organise her party to give her one less thing on her to-do list! She couldn't decide between a unicorn party or a masquerade ball so we went with a Unicorn Ball! There were 8 children aged between 4 and 8 years old, all dressed in unicorn attire or their finest ballgowns!
Here's the activities we had:-
Face Painting
Face paint masks look great (although probably less great if I'd been the one face painting!) and the children can pick their favourite colours for their mask.
Make Your Own Mask
I cut a couple of different shaped masks out in advance from cereal boxes and the children could either sellotape a stick on to hold their mask (wooden coffee stirrers left from our Magic themed party, I got a big pack of them on eBay for a couple of pounds to make magic wand biscuits) or they could hole punch a hole in either side and tie some elastic through to wear them.
They then had an array of decorations and some glue sticks to decorate their chosen mask - feathers, squares of shimmery paper, foam shapes, sequins, pom poms and felt tip pens.
Unicorn Derby
Two of the children at the party had a unicorn rider costume (if you haven't seen them the child's legs become the unicorn's back legs and they hold reins as if they're riding the unicorn, very cute!) which they brought along to the party.
I set up an obstacle course in the garden and the children took it in turns to 'ride their unicorn' around the course and then received a medal for completing the derby - these were chocolate coins sellotaped to a ribbon.
You could also do this with a unicorn hobby horse, although you might want to remove the slide from the course!
Pin the Mask on the Princess
This was a really cute & fun theme and we had a nice mix of party crafts & games. Hopefully the birthday girl had a memorable day!

I stuck three pieces of A3 paper together and drew a princess (excuse my rubbish drawing!) Some leftover wings from our Magic themed party were recycled by trimming them into masks then adding googly eyes. With a bit of blu-tac on the back the children had to try and put the mask on the princess' eyes whilst blindfolded.
Prince Charming's Coming
The last themed activity was a game similar to 'Captain's Coming'.
The children enjoyed a dance to a My Little Pony tune and when the music stopped I would call out various instructions -
"Prince Charming's Coming" = stand up straight and salute
"Time to Waltz" = grab a partner and waltz round the room
"It's Midnight" = run on the spot as fast as you can before your dress turns to rags!
"The Ugly Sisters!" = pull a silly face!
