Chalk Pens & Car Play

Chalk pens are great for drawing on tuff trays and they wipe off easily with a damp cloth. I drew this road map on our tray and added a few wooden vehicles, signs and trees from their wooden train set. Neither of them have ever been huge fans of toy cars but Phoebe and Ollie were delighted with this tray and spent a long time playing with it, grabbing their dad's old metal cars to add more vehicles to the game. I have noticed them going back to the cars several times since then, such as adding them to their farm tray last weekend, it's been like discovering a new toy for them!

I left the road map on the tray for a few days as they were enjoying it and the pens did leave a faint mark when I eventually wiped them off. Don't panic if this happens to yours, after a bit of subsequent water bead play the lines have now come off!

I also set up this number practice tuff tray using the chalk pens. Once they had finished counting out their leaves, conkers and pine cones, Phoebe wanted to wipe it clean and draw on the tray herself. We had some fun turning the 'counters' into other things such as pine cone hedgehogs and she really enjoyed the vivid colours against the black surface.
